Unusually I am typing this on a Saturday Night because I have to go out all Day tomorrow and just won’t have time. A big advantage for me is that on Saturday Night the TV is truly abysmal so I am working on this whilst playing some CDs and stuff which is far less distracting than the Gogglebox and it is highly unlikely that there will be any decent Programmes for which I need to take a break; often on a Sunday Night there is something worth watching like ‘Dragon’s Den’ and that really slows me up on getting the Blog done !!
I’ve got a hugely busy Week ahead of me - normally I like to hibernate for the Winter and stay in the warm but sadly my desires often get totally usurped. Tomorrow I am off to Swindon around Midday to visit my Mum who is extremely seriously ill in Hospital and I suspect this will be one of several trips I will be making down there in the near future. She is 83 and very frail and had doses of Dementia and the latest seems to have been a possible Heart Attack that has then brought on a Stroke - so things look very iffy. After this I am off to Basingstoke to see Deacon Blue on their 30 Anniversary Tour (30 Years !! Sheeeshhh) at The Anvil which is a fantastic Venue as it is really small and the Wheelchair bit is right near the front but sort of back a few Rows and raised up so it is an excellent position. And not just that, I can wheel straight in which is wonderful and very easy (all other Venues take note !!).

You may remember from Last Weekend’s Blog that I was due to finally collect my New Seat Leon Cupra 300 (or not ‘300’ as it happens) last Monday 12th November, and that I was going to drive a Mate down in my ‘Old’ Leon FR and he was going to drive the Cupra from Tunbridge Wells to High Wycombe because it had been fitted with ‘Basic’ Hand Controls and needed to have the Hand Controls I want fitted.
Anyway, we set off and the weather was nice and we had a pretty good drive from Windsor down to Tunbridge Wells and then we were literally Half a Mile from the Seat Dealer when we stopped at Asda to grab some Sandwiches for Lunch. Anyway, after this my ‘Old’ Leon decided that the Hand Controls on it would go wrong (amazing timing after 11 Years) but fortunately my Mate could drive it so there was a huge and scary Change of Plan whereby he would drive the Old one and I had to drive the New Cupra.
When I type up the Drafts for my Blogs I always put a Date at the top (I’m not totally sure why !!!) but having just typed the Date in I am shocked how far into 2018 we are - there are very few Weeks and Days left now before we hit 2019 - it’s really nuts.
It’s a Big Day for me tomorrow (hopefully !!) - if all goes to plan I am off down to Tunbridge Wells with my mate to pick up my New Seat Leon Cupra 300 DSG - but unfortunately we are only taking it then to High Wycombe where it is going to have the ‘proper’ Hand Controls fitted so that I can happily drive it. It’s been a total fiasco in terms of Admin and Logistics and the long and short of it is that to satisfy the Government’s Rules on me being able to get the VAT off the Price of the Car (I think it is worth around £4500 to me), the Garage has to supply it with Hand Controls already fitted so everything is on one Invoice.
What a painful time October turned out to be. 2018 so far has been a really difficult (and tedious !!) Year and I had just about crawled into Positive territory for my Portfolio only to be whacked hard as the Markets fell off a cliff. At the time of writing my Overall Portfolio of everything (including my Income Portfolio) is down about 4% after a nice start to November but there is obviously a Risk that things could get worse. I am on standby for more Shorting if I need to in an attempt to Hedge my Portfolio but other than that I am not doing much at all.
In the immediate Week ahead we have the US Midterm Elections and I would guess that a poor Result for Trump would be taken negatively by the Markets because they like the way he has juiced the US Economy with Tax Cuts and Deregulation and suchlike. The Vote is on Tuesday and I am assuming we will know the Results on Wednesday by the time the Markets in Europe Open and this could cause some silliness. From what I am hearing there is a lot of talk that the Democrats might take over Congress but the Republicans will hold onto the Senate. If Trump was to lose the Senate, that sets up the possibility that the Democrats might move to Impeach The Orange One so the Markets would probably not like this. In favour of Trump the US Economy is rampant and this is highly likely to encourage many People to hold their Noses and punch out the ‘Chad’ for Republican Candidates. |
