I had to laugh when I heard this. It was said by Andrew Neil on ‘This Week’ from Thursday night on BBC1 when they were discussing the usual political farce and Miranda Green first off referred to “the Chukkas” when talking about the recent launch of the new version of the Tigger Party and then Mr Neil when on to say something like, “We used to think they were a triumph of style over substance but it turns out they had no style either…..”
Last Week / Strategy Well I am extremely pleased with how Last Week went for me and it is even more remarkable when you consider it was only 4 days !! (perhaps we could make every Week a 4-day one although many would argue that I only do 4 anyway as you won’t see me for WheelieDust on a Friday - unless you are in the Pub of course !!).

I am being all boring and sensible tonight and using the extra time provided by the Bank Holiday Weekend to make a good start on the Charts Blog (it is Saturday 20th) and mean that on Monday Night I only need to shove some Charts in - well that’s the plan anyway and should mean I can squeeze the text for this part out in a leisurely fashion and should make my task on Monday a lot easier.
Last Week Bit of a frustrating Week for me because I had steadily been clawing back the damage to my Portfolio as the Stocks outperformed the Index Hedges recently and it looked like last Week would continue this trend but then on Friday it all went pear-shaped and I ended up flat on the Week. This means my Portfolio is down about 1% on the Year so far and I need to get those Hedges unwound but need a decent drop to enable this. Fingers crossed as we ease into Summer we might see a bit of weakness in the Markets and that is of course highly likely in the Autumn with September being historically the worst Month and October being a very strange Month that usually works out OK but is notorious for many of the biggest Falls in history.
I’m starting really late tonight because the MotoGP from Texas had to take precedence over all else and of course they have a time difference which isn’t ideal for me getting a Blog scribbled. So it might not be all that long but the main thing is to look at those Charts and see how the Markets are shaping up and I have also managed to bung in some interesting Stock Charts.
With Easter coming up we have two short weeks ahead with Good Friday then Easter Monday being Bank Holidays so the Markets are likely to have low volumes and could do some ‘weird’ stuff - from memory when we get such conditions we often get a ‘melt-up’ where the Markets steadily climb and this would chime with the usual April behaviour where the Month tends to be strong all the way through. Sadly May gets a lot tougher with it on average being the second worst Month so we might be in for something less pleasant in a few Weeks time.
Yesterday I nipped up to London for the Master Investor Show in Islington and had a really enjoyable day meeting up with loads of people I know from Twitter and some new people and a bunch of old mates - so it was well worth the trip and I always find such events a real shot in the arm to keep my enthusiasm for the Markets ticking along.
I would say that the attendance at the Show was down quite a bit on last year but it was by no means ‘dead’ and like it was at the trough of the Credit Crunch when all the Exhibitors were fighting to find a punter to talk to !! Some old mates and I always joke that when the London Shows are really busy it is the Top of the Market and when they are dead quiet it is the Bottom of the Market - this was neither really and a bit ‘in between’. Having said that, there weren’t many proper Companies there - and what I mean by that is that normally there are countless AIM Miners and Biotechs and Start-up Investment Company sort of things (mostly garbage !!) yet this year there was only Avation AVAP (more later) and maybe a couple of Miners which I didn’t bother with obviously. |
Stocks & Markets WheelieBlogsThese tend to be more Markets and Stocks related and timely - the Blog Page on the Main WheelieDealer Website has the 'Educational' stuff (well that's the theory anyway !!). Archives
